The second stop of my spring break in Italy was Florence. After taking an early morning train from Venice to Florence, we figured out how to buy bus tickets and get to our airbnb on a nice quiet street... with some difficulty. But then we headed back out to check out the city (and eat pasta and my daily gelato).
The Florence Duomo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore
The Ponte Vecchio, the always crowded medieval bridge lined by shops, and the view of it from the Ponte Santa Trinita, the best spot to look out at the Ponte Vecchio. While we're talking about the bridges of Florence, head down to the Ponte alla Carraia and get gelato at Gelateria La Carraia next to it. (This trip was about art, architecture, and history but, most importantly, gelato.)
The next day, we took a train out of Florence and over to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Watching people try to do cheesy poses with the tower was much more fun than attempting to take those pictures ourselves.
The wonderful Galleria dell'Accademia. Hey, David.
The Duomo, again.
Kristen
Before meeting a friend who was studying in Florence in the spring, Kristen and I climbed up to the Piazzale Michelangelo, a square with a great view of the city. The view was gorgeous and we made it in time for sunset.
The beautiful Uffizi Gallery, where I spent hours taking in all of the Renaissance art and some particular favorites, like Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Primavera (Allegory of Spring).
